Philip Newland served as Commissioner for Single Member District 1E05 until his resignation in June 2026.

Because the vacancy occurred within six months of the November 3, 2026 general election, District law does not permit the interim ANC vacancy process to be used. The 1E05 seat will therefore remain vacant for the remainder of the current term, and voters in Single Member District 1E05 will elect their next commissioner in the November 3, 2026 general election.
